I FELT LIKE I WAS DROWNING THIS WEEK…. Here’s why:
Stillness.
It’s the answer to most of our problems and questions but man does it feel uncomfortable when you’re in it.
Anxiety + Mom Guilt
While I was out with the family and sick this past week I was forced to slow down, to think more, and to really deep dive into my mission. And while doing it, I felt like I was getting further and further from my goal.
**Which is hysterical because it’s literally the first step I have Mompreneuers take when they’re going through my TIME FREEDOM FORMULA– The way I’ve learned and teach how to create space and freedom in my days.**
Actually, when I created the Time Freedom Formula, I thought through some objections women may have. And the first thing that came to mind was “I have no time so where am I going to find the time to journal and think about things?!” And my response and the reason why that first step is crucial is because it gives you so much CLARITY.
CLARITY IS A NON-NEGOTIABLE
Slowing down and being still allows you to dig deeper. To better understand your thoughts and feelings by fully listening to the noise in your head instead of selectively hearing it. It allows you to really figure things out.
And that’s exactly what was happening with me this week. It just took me some time to recognize what was going on. It took me being still…. actually, being sick….. to be forced to slow things down. And in doing so, I found more information on how I’m here to help you and what my mission is than I would have if I kept pushing through while sitting in my office staring at my screen.
While the stillness may have felt really uncomfortable in the moment, it’s really really important. Sometimes you just have to go through it to reap the rewards.
So what’s the best way to navigate the madness that is mompreneurship?
Unfortunately, anxiety + mom guilt is just a reality life we have to deal with in life. BUT it doesn’t have to be as hard as we make it. In fact, it is a heck of a lot easier when you have a these 3 tools in your tool belt.
STRATEGY
Imagine that feeling of anxiety and mom guilt but then a moment later feeling some relief… sounds amazing, right?! How can that happen? It’s simple. When you feel the mom guilt or anxiety coming on, breathe, acknowledge that it’s there, tell yourself that it’s going to be uncomfortable, and then make some time for stillness.
Stillness for me is journaling and meditating. It allows me to listen to what’s going on and organize my thoughts. For you this might be going for a run, or listening to some music. Whatever it is that allows you to STOP what you’re doing and tune into how you’re feeling…. that is stillness. That’s where clarity and the beginning of relief can be found.
COMMUNITY
Simply having the support of someone who gets it will transform your life. I know that sounds cheesy but we just can’t go at it alone. We need a team. I’m not saying you need to hire people. But instead, you need support.
While I’ve been “drowning”, I talked with some business besties of mine. Not specifically about how I’ve been feeling but just our businesses and lives in general because….. they get it. They’re in similar spots as me. And because of that, they posed great questions and I was able to surprise myself with the answers.
Yes- you need the stillness to make some sense of what’s going on in your head and it helps to have a go-to strategy to lean on when that happens. But then you need to move on to the next step. You need to get out of your head in a safe and understanding space.
And I’m sure you’ve heard it 1000 times but here’s one more: you’ll make it much further in life with more ease when you surround yourself with women who are at or want to reach the same goals as you.
Why? It’s the law of attraction!
So stop what you’re doing right now and write down who you can lean on in times like that. Who is working towards the same goals as you, living that Mompreneur life, and who just gets it? (If you don’t have an answer for this click here.)
SELF-CARE… because you bet I had a glass of wine after all of this .
I mean… need I say more? Once you’ve implemented that go-to strategy you have. Once you’ve gotten outside of your head with your support community. The last piece of the puzzle is to treat yourself to a little self-care.
Because when you fill your cup back up, you’re better to everyone around you.
Think about working from a place of anxiety, guilt and despair vs. calm, ease, focus and excitement. The attitude and patience you bring to the table is WAY different. So make sure you fully pull yourself out of it all with a little me time. (Me Time? What’s that?! 3 Ways to access the holy grail of Me Time…. with examples.)
SO HOW CAN YOU STOP ANXIETY AND MOM GUILT IN IT’S TRACKS?
After all was said and done, I was able to walk out of that crazy week of feeling sick + stuck and of the kids being off their schedules from the holidays and fun activities in the nicer weather, simply because I had a strategy to recognize what was happening and immediately treat that feeling, the support of some business besties to get me out of my head AND a list of fulfilling self-care activities I could easily pull from to finish off the job.
When you can recognize and implement the three key components to getting through anxiety and mom guilt: strategy, community, and self-care, you can finally stop them in their tracks.
Mompreneurship is HARD. There’s A LOT of weight and pressure on you in addition to the amazing benefits. So here’s your friendly reminder that: what you’re doing is SO important. Being a mompreneur, while hard, reaps so many rewards not only for us but for our kids too. It gives us freedom and our kids the freedom of a present parent. BUT it takes some intentionality and extra tools to do it with ease and grace. It takes some strategies, some support and some self-care to navigate the craziness that is Mompreneurship. That’s what I’ve learned from my “feeling like I’m drowning” week and that’s what I want for YOU too.
If you feel like you’re treading water or drowning like I was, I bet you’re in the stillness, need some stillness or could get through it with more ease if you had some ladies to support you……GOOD NEWS- I’VE GOT YOU!
